The Nobel laureates visit Uppsala

Philosophical discussions, lectures on groundbreaking discoveries and the chance to see the celebrities of science in real life. Uppsala University is now inviting you to three days of Nobel lectures. “I hope it will be full of people who want to broaden their perspectives,” says Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt.

After a two-year hiatus as a result of the pandemic, it is finally time to resume the tradition of Nobel lectures held at Uppsala University. This year, an expanded programme will be offered, which Hagfeldt is very much looking forward to.

“The Nobel Prizes are synonymous with excellence and we have a long, excellent tradition of inviting the Nobel laureates to Uppsala. This year, even more people than usual are coming and we have arranged the lectures across three days in a row. I’m both proud and happy about that. I hope it will be full of people who want to broaden their perspectives,” says Hagfeldt.

The programme will be starting on Monday 12 December. The audience will then have a chance to listen to a philosophical conversation between laureates Andrea Ghez, Reinhard Genzel and David MacMillan, Nobel laureates in physics in 2020 and chemistry in 2021. The discussion will be led by science journalist Ulrika Björkstén and will revolve around the laureates' research and what it can mean for humanity.

The next day, there will be the classic Nobel lectures with Carolyn R. Bertozzi, laureate in chemistry, Svante Pääbo, laureate in medicine and John F. Clauser, laureate in physics.

On Wednesday, Uppsala University's Nobel Week ends with a lecture by Peace Prize winner and human rights lawyer Sasha Romantsova.
